Manuscript Consultation
I'm available on a limited basis for manuscript consultation. Over the years I have worked with authors as a manuscript tutor the New York State Summer Writer's Institute, as editor of the literary journal Mount Hope, and as a freelance editor for authors looking to publish or self-publish their work. I work with both fiction and nonfiction authors. I was a hired co-author for Born to Play, by Boston Red Sox star Dustin Pedroia, published by Simon & Schuster.

My goal in consultation is to help the author realize their vision for their work. This typically works best when the author has completed a full first draft of a book, or has made sizeable progress toward a book. I've also worked with authors doing short stories, memoir or essays. That can extend from a writing-coach approach, helping the author launch and develop a project, to detailed analysis of a draft.

I typically don't coach specific genres (romantasy, thriller, etc.) It's my belief that all good work emanates from a strong core story, which is more universal.

I typically do not do detailed copy editing of manuscripts, but can do some limited editing as part of the larger consultation package.

Contact me to discuss rates and time frames. I consider consultations to be confidential for the author. My rate is adjustable depending on the scope of the work, the author's goals, and the author's budget.
